DGI March Event: A Conversation on Homelessness with Local Leaders (Irvine)

Our guest speakers know the landscape and are working tirelessly to reduce homelessness in our community. We are excited to hear from:
– Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris (AD-74)
– Margie Wakeham, Families Forward CEO (Irvine)
– Matt Bates, City Net Vice Pres. (2019 Point in Time Count)
– Stacey Lumley, Costa Mesa Network for Homeless Solutions
– Outreach Team Staff from City of Costa Mesa
Food and refreshments will be provided for all guests.
Doors open this Sunday at 1:45pm, Meeting begins at 2pm. Meeting program occurs 2pm – 3:30pm, followed by a community social with food and refreshments.

Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris (AD-74):
Elected in November, 2018, Cottie serves on the CA State Assembly’s new select committee for addressing regional homelessness. Come hear directly from our incredible Assemblywoman about her progress and priorities for our District in Sacramento. Cottie is the first Democrat to ever represent AD-74.
City Net Vice President Matt Bates:
Matt will give an update on the 2019 homeless Point in Time Count and talk about City Net’s partnerships with cities and regions with programs and contracts to address local homelessness.
Stacey Lumley, Neighborhood Improvement Manager from Costa Mesa’s Network for Homeless Solutions:
The City of Costa Mesa has been a county leader in finding solutions to help the homeless. The city provides support and resources to aid Costa Mesa’s homeless population through the city’s Network for Homeless Solutions, a collaborative effort among city staff, community volunteers, churches, and nonprofit and private organizations. Stacey will share news about the approved shelter plans for Costa Mesa’s homeless population.
Margie Wakeham, Families Forward CEO:
Families Forward has a vision to end homelessness for local families. Starting with 5 rented apartments in 1984, Families Forward has expanded to help hundreds of families regain their economic independence and find a stable home for their children. Come learn about from CEO Margie Wakeham about their plans to increase the development of affordable housing in Irvine and Costa Mesa.
Street Outreach Staff from the City of Costa Mesa:
Hear from a variety of speakers on the programs in place to connect with individuals who are homeless. You will gain a better understanding of the purpose of street outreach, its impact and the special people who are committed to homeless street outreach.
